The active lead tutors in Scotland have been working together in order to enable someone who has to miss one module of a course, to transfer onto a different course. For example if you miss module 2 in Glasgow, you can do the same module in Edinburgh (with James Chapman), Argyll with Ed Tyler, or Coldstream (with Graham Bell) and cover the same core topics. A small admin fee (£10) per change is payable if you would like to transfer. It is advisable to do as many modules as possible with the same group as swsitching courses effects the group dynamics.
If you need to swap, please ask Lusi to arrange. She will contact the other course leader to ask if there is available space. The dates of the Edinburgh PDC are on their website, here.
Prices
Demonstrating fair share in action there is a sliding scale to enable everyone to access permaculture learning. There are a limited number of unwaged places, a limit which increases the more people pay full price.
- Unwaged is for students/unemployed.
- Low waged is for people with a household income of up to £12k.
- Waged is for people with a household income greater than £12k.
- Full Price. This is for organisations (where an organisation is paying for your place) or those on a good waged (i.e. if you can afford it, this really helps us to have more people on unwaged band and to make the course viable).
For the first module : £135 (full price) £115 (waged) £80 (low waged) to £45 (unwaged).
For 5 remaining modules from Feb -Jun we include an accreditation fee which gives you a beautiful certificate from the Permaculture Association which gives international accreditation for completion of the full Permaculture Design Course. If you pay the full amount at the beginning of the course you pay the following:
£660 (orgs/good wage); £555 (waged); £390 (low waged); £230 (unwaged).
It is brilliant if you are able to pay the full amount up front as it considerably reduces admin. It is also possible to pay by monthly installments, with an admin fee of 10%.

Unwaged | 45 | 225 | 50 |
If you prefer to pay in installments without the admin fee, it is possible to pay in installments before the course begins, for example starting in October, finished by February. Please discuss this with me (as you may choose to pay a different monthly amount).
If you prefer to pay by monthly payments, this should be done one month in advance of each module. For example if you are on a low wage, you pay your deposit of £80 when you book in November, then in January pay £88 for the February module, in February (before the 2nd module) you pay £88 for the March module, and so on. I have a standing order mandate form for you to complete if this works for you.
Please feel that the onus is on you to make the payment rather than on me to remind you each month. If you miss one weekend, you still need to pay for it. I have a form for you to sign in February if you are using this method that says that even if you drop out of the course you will still pay for the modules which you do not attend.
Certificate
On successful completion of 80% of the course (including the design) you will receive a certificate from the Permaculture Association. This certificate is a requirement of various aspects of permaculture, such as to study the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design, to be a Centre in the Permaculture ScotLAND network, to attend an International Permaculture Convergence, and some paid or voluntary roles.
Book Your Place
To book your place on this course, please complete this booking form and pay your deposit. If you want to reserve your place for the full Design Course, you must pay at least the full amount for the first module at time of booking (e.g. if waged this would be £110).
Cancellations
For the introduction course, if you cancel more than one week in advance of the course, the deposit of 50% of your full fee is non-returnable. If you cancel within one week of the course starting, the full fee is non-returnable.
For the full design course, the deposit of the full cost of the first module is non-returnable. If you cannot attend a module of the full design course, you still must pay for it (options to transfer this module to other courses are at an additional fee of £10).
Teachers
Lusi Alderslowe will be lead tutor for every module. In addition, guest tutors will be invited to co-teach, their names appear in the course details below. More info in the biographies section below.
Times
Please arrive at 9.30am for a 9.45am start, finishing at 4.30pm on both Saturdays and Sundays.
Lunch
Every day of the course students are invited to bring a packed lunch.
We will provide tea, coffee and some fruit, however additions (e.g. home baking, more fruit) are always welcome!
What book to buy?
If you are wondering what to spend your xmas book tokens on, I’d recommend Patrick Whitefield’s Earth Care Manual. It is a great reference book and a core text which covers the basics of all the homework (preparing presentations for modules 3 and 5), but can be expensive (and some specific topics may be better covered by another book). I will bring books to each module for you to browse, to make it easier for you to make your own choice (please let me know if you have any specific requests).
