The Concrete Gardens

Getting there
The address is:
The Concrete Garden
St Matthews Centre,
200 Balmore Road,
Glasgow
G22 6LJ

The building is called St Matthew’s Centre. It’s quite obvious as the only building that looks like it – a red brick church set back a little from the road. If you aren’t sure check it out on Streetview (on Google maps).
Bike
Depending on where you are coming from, there are various routes. The area is called Possil, and once you are nearby the nearest landmark for directions if you are asking strangers is the big Lidl on Balmore Road. It is near the canal which connects with different parts of the North of the city. For more detailed directions, please look up: openstreetmap.org

Towards the left side of the screen click on the bendy arrow. In the from field add your own address, and in the to field type ‘Concrete Gardens, Glasgow’. Then select ‘bicycle’. This should give you clear directions.

Train
The easiest way to get there is on the train. Catch the train from Glasgow Queen Street to Possilpark & Parkhouse. This is a 7 minute journey – scotrail.co.uk has train times. From the train station it is a 5 minute walk to the Concrete Gardens – Get off the train, walk up the stairs, turn left along the main road (Balmore Road) and then St Mathews Centre is on your left.

Bus
Bus number 7 or 75 from Glasgow City Centre.
Bus number 90 from Byres Road.

On the 7, get off at the first stop after the stop outside Lidl. This bus stop is practically opposite the St Mathews Centre. Cross the road. Continue to walk in the direction the bus was going, St Matthews is on your right.

On the 75 bus, get off at the stop outside of Lidl. Cross the road diagonally at the junction just after the stop. Walk along Balmore road a short distance and you should see St Matthews Centre on your right.

Public transport on a Sunday

Please note that when travelling by public transport in Scotland, often Sunday mornings have fewer options, so please do check train/bus times for the Sunday morning in advance. If travelling from afar it is often best to stay over on the Saturday night in Glasgow.

Car
It’s easiest to get online directions from your home to Balmore Road. When you arrive you can turn off the road and park in the carpark. On the Sunday if you are able bodied, it’s preferable for you to park across the road in Balmore Square to leave space for the church-goers. For more detailed directions, please look up: openstreetmap.org Towards the left side of the screen click on the bendy arrow. In the from field add your own address, and in the to field type ‘Concrete Gardens, Glasgow’. Then select ‘car’. This should give you clear directions from home.

Ron Mara, Muasdale, Argyll

Ron Mara
North Beachmore
Muasdale
Argyll
PA29 6XD

Travel Directions
By far the easiest way to get to Ron Mara is by bus.

Bus
Number 926 bus from Glasgow Buchanan Street to Muasdale.
Book the bus to Muasdale on Friday which leaves Glasgow at 17.45. On the way back on Sunday, book the bus which comes through Muasale at 15:24, but we’ll be getting on in Tarbert at 16.09. You book the bus at http://www.citylink.co.uk/

If you buy the bus ticket in advance it is much cheaper (the more in advance the cheaper).
Buy it at least 48 hours in advance.

When you get on the bus, you have to request the stop. So ask if the driver can let you off at North Beachmore, which is where the lama/alpaca’ field is (the lamas may not be in the field at the time but most drivers know the field). It is one mile before Muasdale, which is 3 miles after Tayinloan (ferry to Gigha).
The bus always stops for a 10 minute break in Inveraray. You can use the public toilets, and little shops. Don’t be late back or the bus may have gone without you.

When you are booking your outward travel it is probably a good idea to book your return. We will be aiming to leave from Tarbert at about 16.09 on the Sunday (you can get the later bus if you prefer).

Car
From Glasgow:
Don’t depend on Satnav because you might end up past Ron Mara in Muasdale, or waiting for a ferry (that might not run that day!) if it takes you another route!! Please make sure you look at the route on the map before you go!
Follow the A83 all the way. Past Loch Lomond. Left at Tarbet. Passed Arrochar. Through
Inverary. In Lochgilphead turning left at every opportunity it’s signposted to Campbeltown.
Into Tarbert. Keep following the signs for Campbeltown. Passed the Gigha Ferry signposts.
Go through Tayinloan. 3 miles later, 100m before you get to the turn off to the right to the
church that’s right on the shore. Turn left. There is a shed, and Ed will put up a sign saying ‘Ron Mara’. If you get to Muasdale you have gone too far!
Drive slowly up the hill. It is the house on the right. (there are other houses, but they are on the left).

THE YOGA BARN (OLD BARN)

The yoga barn is beautifully located in the middle of Pollok Country Park, on the southside of Glasgow. It is a great place for observing nature, it has a wood burning stove, separate kitchen so quite perfect for our group! The Old Barn is tucked away inside Dumbreck Stables (the riding school has closed down) near Hagss castle and the motorway (it is notably NOT the stables with the Clydesdales near Pollok House )

LOCATION: http://www.theoldbarn-glasgow.co.uk/contact.html

ADDRESS: 82 Dumbreck Road, Glasgow, G41 4SN.

The entrance is along our “Fairy Path” – not through the stable yard. Follow the signs.

By bike: We love cyclists! We are on National Cycle Routes 7 and 75.

By bus: The 59 First Bus runs from Glasgow City Centre and stops on Mosspark Blvd. The 34 runs from Govan to Battlefield and stops on Dumbreck Road. From the bus stops, it’s a 4-6 minute walk.

By train: Maxwell Park, Crossmyloof and Pollokshaws West stations run every day, are all within walking distance.

By car: Take M8 (west) from Glasgow City Centre, then M77, then first off-ramp signed Mosspark. At traffic lights turn left, then immediately right into Pollok Country Park. We have limited on-street parking for 12 cars on the right-hand verge leading up to the barn. Never park on the left as this restricts the flow of traffic. For weekend events, we will either direct you to the free car parks at Cartha Rugby Club or Lochinch playing fields. Check our Facebook page for event parking information

Woodlands Community Garden

Address:
Woodlands Community Garden,
123 W Prince’s St,
Glasgow G4 9BY.

Check out their website:

Bus
To get there from the Southside, catch the bus number 4 or 6 – after you cross the motorway, there are traffic lights, get off at the first bus stop after the bus turns left.

Urban Roots

Urban Roots is one of the first Permaculture ScotLAND Centres and an inspirational project – their inner-city base enables them to reach out to work with very varied groups including local volunteers, schools, and community gardens throughout the Southside of Glasgow. Their new base, nestled between high rise flats, community gardens, and a mixed woodland and wetland habitat home to deer, foxes, kestrels and rare plants, is an ideal venue for an urban permaculture course.

Getting there
Cycling
Toryglen is on the South Side of Glasgow. If you are already on the South Side, the easiest way of getting here is cycling. The nearest landmark for directions is the big Asda on the corner of Propecthill Road and Aikenhead Road. From Asda you go along the main Prospecthill Road, then first left and right onto Prospecthill Circus (go down the road about 200m). The Toryglen Community Base is the second building on your right (passed a little car park).

Bus
You can catch the bus number 7 from the centre of town, and it passes along Victoria Road (for those who live on the Southside). After you pass Asda on the left (with road going into car park). Get off straight after the next junction – on Prospecthill Road before the chapel. Walk back to the junction, turn right and right again, onto Prospecthill Circus (go down the road about 200m). The Toryglen Community Base is the second building on your right (passed a little car park).

Other buses, such as the number 75 also pass nearby – get off at Asda and you can walk from there along Prospecthill Road and left onto Prospecthill Circus as above (15 minutes walk).

From the West End or East Kilbride direction, you can catch the bus no 4 or 6. Get off at the top of Victoria Road, it’s a 15 minute walk due East from there (or you can catch the number 7 bus, phone me if you’d like more detailed info).
From Google Maps. Directions in blue dots are from the bus stop.

Train
The nearest station is at Crosshill which is about a 15 minute walk away (or a short cycle ride though you have to carry your bike up the steps at the station).
Toryglen is also quite close to Rutherglen train station.

Car
I’m not that good at cars’ directions (sorry) but I know that the new M74 extension is close by, and you’re better getting instructions direct from your home from a website, e.g.
openstreetmap.org
or
Google Maps
